BRIC Diabetes Drugs Market

The prevalence of diabetes is on the rise across the globe due to increased life expectancy, changing lifestyles, and the rising incidence of obesity. Brazil’s diabetes drugs market is showing a double digit growth rate; while the Russian insulin market is also expected to witness significant growth with an estimated 20 million patients in the region requiring diabetes treatment by 2025. About Acai Berry Facts

The acai berry is a fruit about as small as a grape and can be found predominantly in Brazil, particularly in the Amazon rainforest. The acai berry has slightly less pulp than a grape. In fact, only 10% of the fruit can be considered as berry; the other 90% of it are mostly seed and pit. The berries are being harvested by people in the Brazil region and are being used as food, most especially as part of their breakfast. It is a large part of the diet of people living in the Amazon area. More than that, the acai berry is also an important medicinal plant. For hundred of years, people of the Amazon have used this fruit to cure the more common ailments; it is even said to be part of the region’s folklore.

The acai berry first started to gain popularity in of Rio de Janeiro, a country that is thousands of miles away from the Amazon rainforest. The acai berry and its derivatives can be used to augment workouts and is particularly helpful in athletic activities. This is because the acai fruit is known to be a very effective energy booster. Just recently, the acai berry has also been gaining popularity in many other countries as well. In America, interest in this fruit has been increasing in the media, supported by medical professionals, scientists, and nutritionists. They have been raving about the many health benefits of the acai berry, its nutritional qualities, and its weight loss aiding properties.

The acai berry has been dubbed as a “superfruit” or a “superfood.” This is because the antioxidant properties of the acai berry are unsurpassed by any other fruit in the world. In truth, no fruit ever comes close to the free radical fighting ability and the total nutritional value of the acai berry. It is said to contain not only the largest amount of antioxidants than any other given fruit, but the acai berry reportedly contains the most number of different types of antioxidants and the most amount of percentage of some given antioxidant in one fruit. Besides the antioxidant elements, the Acai berries provide a good source of Vitamin (monounsaturated fats), iron, fiber, and amino acids etc.

However, there is one problem with the distribution of the acai berry, despite its increasingly high demand worldwide. The fruit spoils very easily – mostly just one day after harvesting. As the berry spends time off the tree after harvesting, the rapid decline of the fruit makes it lose much of its nutritional content and the antioxidant contents. This is basically the reason why you can’t find it on groceries in the United States or anywhere else. However, the manufacturers are now increasingly finding ways of packing and selling acai berry products, specifically for those weight loss watchers. One of the processes that is being used today to preserve the acai berry is to do freeze-drying of the fruit right on the site of harvest. It is then kept on a frozen state until it is delivered to the processing plant or other markets. This process still does not retain all the important nutritional qualities of the fruit but at least it is making it marketable. Much still needs to be studied about the acai berry and it will surely be scrutinized on a much larger scale these coming years.

Twitter is Profitable to Everyone

Twitter has struggled for a long time to find a profitable business model. The wait is finally over and the microblogging site has turned a profit. Twitter will make search deals with Google and Microsoft’s Bing for $25 million.  The deal will make tweets searchable by both search engines — Google will generate approximately $15 million and Bing will fetch $10 million.

While Twitter is only now seeing the fruits of their labor, entrepreneurs and companies have been monetizing millions of Twitter users for some time now. Recently, Dell surpassed $3 million it made by using Twitter earlier this year to reach an astonishing $6.5 million through business referrals. Beyond business referrals, sponsored tweets and direct advertising have been profitable revenue streams for many companies. Here are ways companies are making money from Twitter’s users:

Business Referrals

Dell is seeing profits increase in lock step with their rise in popularity on Twitter. Brand Republic reported, the Delloutlet account (@Delloutlet) has recently grown from 640,000 followers to 1,468,249. Over $1 million has been made from @Delloutlet referrals for their “certified refurbs, scratch and dent and previously ordered new Dell products.” Furthermore, Dell’s Twitter operation in Brazil @DellnoBrasil has turned a profit of $800,000 in eight months. Twitter is a powerful business referral tool. For those influencers — like Dell — at the upper echelons, referrals can generate significant revenue. While you might not see direct revenues from your Twitter account, business referrals can make a significant impact on your bottom line.

Sponsored Tweets

More direct ways of making money have been through sponsored tweets. Essentially, a company leverages your followers to increase their brand awareness and traffic referrals through your tweets. Twitter has arguably become more of a “spammy” site due to these techniques. Furthermore, the FTC’s blogging crackdown takes aim at these often times elusive practices. To create more transparency in sponsored links, Brian Solis suggests incorporating “$,” “spon” and “paid” into endorsements. Twitter still remains very much like the wild west — with little order or regulation.

Direct Advertising

Banner ads generate profitable revenues on blogs and online news publications, why not Twitter? Magpie & Friends has built an advertising platform that pays users to sell their…

A Social Media Overview

Social Media is the buzz phrase of the web today, however, ask any two web professionals what “Social Media” actually is and you will get two differing answers; in fact, Social Media means different things to different people including the most important group of all, the users.
Users are bringing change to the web because of how their web surfing habits are evolving.  This is leading to new and creative ways to satisfy the changing demands for how information and content is searched and used.

Social Media Defined

The World Wide Web was conceived as a medium for information exchange between users, however, it is only with the advent of Social Media innovations this has become reality for ordinary users as individuals and collectives including businesses.  Social Media is not defined by “What It Is” but more by “What It Does” – it is the enablement of any user to share information whether uploading it to the web for others or viewing and downloading content for their own use.

This said we’ll be looking at what different Social Media sites do in practice so you can grasp the whole concept.
The currency of the internet is sharing content and this includes the written word but also sharing photos and images, video recordings and audio tracks.  Think diary entry, holiday snaps, favorite music and favorite TV show or movie though users can now make and share their own content and not just commercially made and distributed music and film.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is used synonymously with Social Media and again opinions differ very widely as to what it means.  Web 1.0 generally refers to the underlying technology which allows for the internet to work and function at a basic level, HTML for instance, the code for making web pages.  Web 2.0 refers to tools and developments which refer less to technical backroom “stuff” and more to the application by users of sites themselves.  This is particularly true when it comes to how users are putting the World Wide Web to their own uses to share information and interact with one another as well as the whole internet community.

Social Media Sites in Action

We’re now going to cover some of the broad subdivisions within Social Media and give you practical examples of each.

Blogging

Think of a diary with entries written by the owner each day and now transfer this to your computer screen – the term “blog” is actually a contraction of the phrase, “web log”.   Users write and upload their entries together with links other web pages and as the practice has developed so has the ability to upload and post images, audio and video for others to view.

A blog has the capability to reach every user on the internet; blogging has empowered users with the ability to reach very large numbers of people around the world and has been adopted by many organizations and businesses as well as a means to get their message out to market.

Popular blogging platforms include Wordpress and Blogger though many websites also have their own integrated blog attached.

The “Blogosphere’ refers to the blogging community of bloggers and readers as well as the interconnected blogs themselves and has spawned a need for specialized search facilities such as Technorati, to help users find information much as search engines such as Google and Yahoo! do.

A development of the blog is the VLog (contraction of Video log) which is simply the uploading of a spoken and video recorded entry to the blog.

Microblogging

Microblogging enables multimedia communication using very brief posts similar to a blog but in a very truncated fashion.  The most popular service is Twitter which has come to dominate this space and is a form of instant messaging but to a much wider audience than simply one-on-one or conference calling.  Picture a room full of people talking and you have the ability to dip in and out of those conversations at will as well as initiating new conversations or making an announcement which will be picked up by others if they so wish.

Online Social Networking

Currently dominating user time on the internet and challenging the search engines hold on user access to information.  Online social networking provides for a virtual replication of existing real-world social networks in cyberspace with the added advantages of recovering lost connections due to distance and time as maintaining social relationships in close to real-time no matter the distance separating users – and for the most part it is free.

Additionally, online social networks provide the ability to instantly share content with an individual, a group or the public; content can be user generated images, photographs, video and written thoughts or they can share common interests in a product, a personality, a cause or a commercially produced piece of content.  Other tools are typically provided such as messaging and instant chat as well as online games and recreational diversions.

Online social networks are fluid and dynamic and the space is dominated by large sites such as MySpace and Facebook though there are many other networks focusing on specific interest groups such as lifestyle, social activity or hobby.  LinkedIn is the most successful specialist online network serving the business user for maintaining and developing professional networks.  Online social networks also appeal to all age ranges and demographics though regional tastes differ; MySpace dominates the US, Facebook in Europe and Orkut in Brazil and India while older users tend to favor Facebook and younger users MySpace.

Multimedia

The demand for sharing images, music and video has led to the creation of numerous sites to satisfy it; there are several major sites operating in this space including:

YouTube – a video sharing site owned by Google and dominating this space in terms of user traffic;
Flickr – a photo sharing site acting as an online photo album where images can be stockpiled for use elsewhere on the web as well as allowing sharing; and
Hulu – a site where TV shows and movies are available at no cost to the viewer.

Wikis

A wiki is a compilation of web pages created and modified by the users themselves and frequently used for collaborative projects where teams of users create a resource both for their own communities as well as the world at large.  By far the most popular wiki is Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia created by users and groups but wikis are also used as intranets by businesses and groups pooling knowledge and bringing different skill sets and member experiences to bear on the subject matter.

Web Page Publishers

Establishing a web site carries with it certain barriers for ordinary users wishing to publish content to the web – they must buy and register a domain name and then create and publish the web pages – all of which costs time and money.

Web page publishers provide an easy and free means of creating your own web pages using their own platform for you to operate within.  You can create text, upload images and video which will have a web address and link the page and items it contains (including links from other web pages) to anywhere else the user wishes.  This creates a huge database of user generated content which can be searched and accessed by other users or restricted to a private group.

Examples of these sites include Squidoo, Xanga and Zimbio.

Social Bookmarking and Social News

Social bookmarking is a method of noting web pages which are of interest to a user and then sharing this “tag” with other users; other interested users can then navigate to the web page and also make their own assessment of whether the page is of interest or not – a form of voting or a web page popularity contest.

There are two major sites in this space; Del.icio.us (Delicious) and Stumbleupon though there are numerous others aimed at differing interest groups.

A similar system is used by Digg and Reddit for news items emerging on the web with users voting an item up or down; the more votes a piece receives, the higher it is ranked thus increasing the exposure and opportunity to receive even more votes until it is overtaken by other, more newsworthy entries as determined by the user community casting votes in near real-time.

Outsourcing Software Development Projects Offshore Part II

What are the pitfalls, and potential drawbacks of outsourcing?

Well, there are many—and this is what scares the “late adopters” away. The biggest fear, I believe, is entrusting your intellectual property to any third party, let alone to someone you don’t know, in a country with different customs (RE: more IP theft) and laws. This isn’t something that I would suggest being taken lightly. However, the outsourcers are aware of this fear. They won’t be in business long, if their clients IP is being stolen from them—this is the type of thing that tends to kill a service business. So they are very sensitive to this issue, and have erected many security features to allay the client’s fears. In extreme circumstances, the client code can be isolated to computers with no Internet Access or write devices.

The second most important fear is lack of control. Software companies are typically accustomed to internal development, and want to manage the process closely. You can still manage and monitor the product development process closely using an offshore outsourcer—and you should. It does, however, take a bit more work and usually an adjustment to the normal management processes. From what I have seen in my research, it is very possible to have the process go as well, or better, than it would in-house. It’s also very possible to screw it up completely!

The third greatest fear is dealing with a different culture and time zone. Except for the most bigoted among us, I believe that this is easily overcome simply by “doing”. Once you work closely with colleagues in other countries, you realize that we’re all “people”, with many of the same aspirations and fears, regardless of where we live. Most will get very comfortable quite quickly with their foreign counterparts, if they just jump in and give it a chance.

Lastly, there is the issue of inertia—”we’ve always done it this way”. Although it seems a bit silly, this is a very common problem. This problem has deeper roots, and is much more serious, than simply fear of outsourcing. If you don’t overcome it and roll with the changes, it could kill your company.

If I do outsource, to which country should I send my projects?

There are a number of choices—below is my current preference list, in ranked order:
1.India
2.Russia/Eastern Europe
3.Brazil
4.China

I rank India first, although at this point they are probably the highest cost. The reason is that the Indian outsourcing companies are the most mature, with the longest track record. They also speak pretty good English, which is important to those of us here in the US. You can expect the hourly rates to be in the neighborhood of $18-20/hour—still an enormous savings over US development costs.

The second choice is Russia/Eastern Europe. The companies there are far less mature than in India, so you are taking a greater security and execution risk. If you really need lower costs, however, hourly rates can be as low as $4-5/hour.

Brazil is an emerging place for outsourcing. I have a handle on the exact rates, but they are very low. For US clients, Brazil has the advantage of being in the nearest time zone, so you can talk during business hours, and is the easiest place to get to—especially from the Eastern US.

China, like in nearly every other market, is the potential thousand pound gorilla lurking in the wings. It is the most immature place for outsourcing software, an industry that is just emerging. The language differences can be a difficulty, and IP laws are still troubling. But there is a huge pool of competent technical resources, and the people that I spoke with expect rates as low as $1-1.50/hour.

What are the key things I should focus on to ensure the success of my outsourcing project?

My research turned up several key things:

Choose an offshore outsourcer that has a local office in your country. Over time, this may become less important, as you get to know your outsourcing partner. But at least initially, it can be the difference between a successful first project, and dismal failure.

Choose an outsourcer who has been in business for a while, is stable financially and has low labor churn—but is still hungry. If they’re “too successful”, the priority sometimes shifts from client satisfaction to maximizing profitability—not to your benefit.

Choose an outsourcing partner who is appropriate for your size. If you are a small, early stage company, you might be too small for one of the large, major brand names in the outsourcing business. The potential for getting ignored, and being low priority, looms large in this situation.

Choose a partner who is growing by referral, not by large marketing expenditures. Great Service companies thrive on long time clients and their referrals—repeat business means satisfied customers.

Have a key member of the offshore team come onsite at your company for several weeks or months, if you can afford it. This was suggested as a key reason for early success, by many of the companies who had positive experiences from the start. It was a key link in creating understanding and good communications with the offshore team.

Start small, and with a project that is not mission-critical. This will allow you to “debug and test” the process, so that you can maximize efficiencies when you do outsource a larger, more critical project.

Demand written reports on a regular and timely basis. Certainly weekly on a first project—daily might even be appropriate in some circumstances.

Demand and hold regular status meetings. No less often the weekly on a first project.

If at all possible, “pick your own team.” If you can get to know the personnel at your outsourcer, try to specify who will work on your project and for how long. The worst thing that can happen is that you start off with “stars”, and mid-project labor churn and higher priority clients lead to turnover on your team, and a more junior staff.

So that’s my run-down on outsourcing. I’m sure there are many opinions on this one.

Brazil – After the floods

I went back to Maranhao, one of many cities that had been devastated by floods last month, to survey the progress after the damage.

The waters that were once nearly up to roofs have almost totally receded, leaving a huge amount of toxic mud that has dried in the harsh tropical sun and is now blowing around in the air. The pools of water that are still left around town are full of fish, including piranha. Here is a photo of a girl, bleeding from a piranha bite, showing off the fish that bit her. She took it home, fried it in coconut oil, and ate it.

People are fixing their homes, which is free for the poorer people because they just pack more mud into the frames of their houses. The local government has been spraying pesticide all over the place so mosquitos won’t proliferate any more than they usually do. People are back working on their plots of land with some crops like corn, which has been destroyed, and bananas, which are doing just fine. The floods have ended, people are getting back to work, schools are opening back up, and though a shitload of people are sick (well, they were fishing in an accidental river of sewage), the vibe seems pretty positive.

I met a guy in front of the palm frond shack he built while waiting for the flood waters that destroyed his house to recede so he could rebuild it. He tells me that he can tell by my accent that I am not from around these parts. When I say I am from the US he asks me to give a message to President Obama. “Tell him that we like him a lot down here, that we love Americans, and that we are all very happy that he won the election.” It’s the first time since Bush was elected the first time that any Brazilian has told me that they like Americans. Which is a little strange since the US donated only $50,000 in aid, and there was no evidence that a cent had made it to this town.

Brazil is witnessing massive investments in its housing sector

Brazil Housing Sector Analysis

Brazil has emerged as one of the favorable destinations for the real estate developers to tap unexplored opportunities in housing sector, despite gloomy economic environment. This is largely due to the fact that the country is facing massive housing shortage owing to demand-supply mismatch. With recession hurting the economy, low cost or affordable housing units are fast emerging as the next area of growth in the country’s housing sector. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Brazil-Housing-Sector-Analysis.html )

According to our latest research report “Brazil Housing Sector Analysis”, the housing sector is poised for tremendous growth in the coming few years on the back of growing population, rising income levels and increasing demand for housing units, particularly in the lower and middle income segment. Our research anticipates total housing stocks to increase at a CAGR of around 3% during 2009-2013. Moreover, the government-owned housing institutions have been offering loans at 12% interest that can be easily paid over 30 years. This, alongwith various other initiatives by the government, will lead to 14% decline in the housing deficit, at 6.27 Million homes in 2007. However, the government hasn’t set a deadline for completion and the program will be considered finished only on completion of one million homes.

Anticipating the market potential, Brazil is witnessing massive investments in its housing sector, from both the private and the public sector. These investments are particularly targeted at meeting unprecedented demand for affordable housing units in the country. It is anticipated that the housing construction industry could overtake other sectors in terms of contribution to GDP growth in the next few years.“Brazil Housing Sector Analysis” provides extensive research and objective analysis on the growing housing industry in Brazil, its components and supporting financing structure. The report aims at helping clients to analyze the factors critical to the success of the housing industry in Brazil. Detailed data and analysis helps investors, financial service providers and global real estate players to navigate through the latest trends in Brazil’s housing industry.

In addition, the renown website has a chief blog site, Style File, where writers can post opinions on various aspects of fashion in a more informal setting and approach. Even though there are several writers for Style File, the writing style of this blog site is distinct and individual to Style.com’s website.

1.) Clarity of thought: 6.5. It is decent. You are able to read through it, although some postings may be a bit long-winded. Also, some entries may be difficult to understand if you don’t have a lot of knowledge of people in the fashion industry, such as Sophia Hesketh and Byrdie Bell.

2.) Timeliness: 8.5. This blog seems to lack consistency. It will have 5-6 entries in one day, and then skip three days entirely without any new posts and then continue on with 5-6 entries. This is probably because people are not working on the weekends. On the upside, it does post slightly more than the average blog, but for a blog that is on a website of considerable size and prominence, you would expect that it would.

3.) Relevance: 7. I don’t think this blog really provides any new information that is of importance or is really interesting. It attempts to draw on styles outside of the US, which can be informative, but it doesn’t focus enough fashion in the homeland. Focus of articles tends to stray away from American fashion, and stick more with foreign matters. In the past several days, there have been over five postings purely on Moscow fashion alone. This is completely unnecessary. Information can also be quite dry at times.

4.) Degree of Opinion: 6. While it does provide news, writers do not write to form their own opinions really, but just blog to create a place for viewers to post their own insights and opinions. The writers tend to say something that they feel is true, such as the “Prep School Blazer style is very trendy,” yet it still opens the discussion for debate, by asking viewers whether they agree or what their thoughts are. This makes the writer’s opinions seems inconsistent and weak. The blog would be better if the writers had a stronger point of view in their critique. It is unnecessary to ask the reader whether they agree with them or not, because the reader will post his or her opinions anyway.

Hint Magazine blog:

Hint Magazine is an online fashion magazine, where you can read fashion columns and story features with a wide ranging selection of topics including music, art, dance and, of course, fashion. It has a separate blog to informally discuss various areas of interests that cater to more independent styles and are usually humorous and entertaining to read.

Total Score: 30

1.) Clarity of thought: 8. The blog is clear to read and understand. It is written in a contemporary manner that appeals to a younger audience. There are not copious amounts of text in each entry compared to the Style File blog, and instead they include many photos and videos that go along with the postings. This makes it look less daunting to get through, which is important in today’s fast paced world of Twittering.

2.) Timeliness: 6. In an era where bloggers are uploading new entries a dozen times per day, this blog only has, on average, 1-2 posts per day. In order to maintain a blog with readers constantly tuning in, it is imperative that there are multiple entries in a short span for readers to regularly come back to.

3.) Relevance: 7. Where Style File’s subject content was entirely about the New York fashion world, this blog seems to veer slightly to the left of that direction. The information posted seems to target a more indie audience by showcasing unheard of designers, writers and artists. I found also that it seems to post a lot on Brazilian artists and designers. I am not sure if there is a correlation between the writers and Brazil for them to do so, but either way, it is a little inconsistent with balancing foreign matters. Some posts are completely irrelevant and hold no interest for me, but for those that enjoy reading about marble urinals in art exhibits and gay porn awards, this is your destination. And if you are one of those readers who enjoy this blog, good luck with letting them know your thoughts, since they have disabled the commenting feature on this blog.

4.) Degree of Opinion: 9. Writers on this blog seem to enjoy writing about what they write about. While news information can be lackluster and tedious at times, this blog tries to send out their messages in a humorous and enjoyable way. While not all of the content on this blog is PG, I did enjoy reading it, even if I wasn’t too interested in what they were actually saying.

Fashion Tribes:

Fashion Tribes tends to appeal to the average fashionista who is well versed in various areas of fashion, such as new trends, beauty and accessories. The reader is usually familiar with popular styles and substantial fashion news occurring on in the fashion world. Taking elements from various aspects of fashion, such as advertisements, magazines and events, this website is pretty solid and well rounded.

Total Score: 30

1.) Clarity of thought: 9. The blog is portioned into smaller paragraphs, which makes it really reader friendly. Also, if you find yourself done with the reading, but are still interested in the topic, it allows you to read more after the jump, which gets rid of extra writing clutter, and opens up space for more easy on the eyes photos and videos. A lot of good pictures and examples, which make the posts look lively and not overwhelming to read.

2.) Timeliness: 6. For a website that is well known across the nation as one of the top rated fashion blogs, you would think that there would be much more blog entries, but instead I was disappointed to find that it only updates only 3-4 days per week. Even though there are a good amount of entries per day, the blog does not allow readers to view older posts, since there is no backlog feature. This makes it really disappointing for those that want to continue reading the rest of the blog, but are unable to.

3.) Relevance: 9. I really enjoyed the content on this blog and thought that it had a lot of good, useful information. It draws in various news about upcoming websites in fashion, as well as information about fresh spring beauty regimes and free giveaways, which everyone loves. Considering the wide-range of topics featured on this blog, I think that it is very good for an everyday shopaholic.

4.) Degree of Opinion: 6. There is hardly, if any, critique in any of the entries posted. However, when creating a blog site, you usually write about what you like, so with that in mind, you definitely know what the writers for this blog like to write about, which explains why I gave it a more generous score, since it posts things assuming that you know that these are things that they enjoy or find pleasing, without really having an opinion about them.

Go Fug Yourself:

Combine Hollywood celebrity style with a Perez Hilton sense of humor, and you have the love child of Go Fug Yourself. Known for its uncanny humor, it leaves no celebrity unharmed or unnoticed. This blog is probably one of the most hilarious fashion criticism blogs out there in a sea of fashion blogs on the internet, but then again, I am being completely biased, since these writers’ humor is right up my alley. Warning, this blog is not for everyone.

Total Score: 38

1.) Clarity of thought: 9. This blog uses the adverb, “A picture speaks a thousand words” and makes it its central point. Uploading a photo of a celebrity in a ridiculous outfit pretty much speaks for itself, since that is mainly how it shows the reader the ridiculousness of the celebrity’s outfit choices. Using the photo as the butt of its jokes, the writers then unapologetically bash the outfit.

2.) Timeliness: 10. Finally! A blog with a little consistency! It updates well over the course of the day. You can expect around 5 entries in a day, expect on weekends, which is understandable.

3.) Relevance: 9. Depending on your sense of humor, this site may or may not be right for you. For those who enjoy reading about bashing celebrities based on their clothing choices, then you have pretty much found gold, but for the fainthearted, you may cringe a bit more when you realize how harsh some of the critiques may be. No worries though, this website is all in good fun! Luckily, for this website, I fall in the former category, and enjoyed this blog thoroughly.

4.) Degree of Opinion: 10. Go Fug Yourself has made a career by casting its opinion on what others are wearing, so if it would be difficult for me to give it anything but a full score rating.

Fashionista

Fashionista is the product of two staff writers from Nylon and Elle Magazine, and joining to give you news in the fashion world faster than most other blogs. With a combo of gossip, rumors, sale tip-offs, internship suggestions, free giveaways, editorial photos and every other relevant news in the fashion world, Fashionista is a comprehensive and delightful read. Perhaps I am just being completely subjective, because this is one of the few blogs that I actually read everyday, alongside Perez Hilton, but Fashionista combines all the New York style straight out of the city’s oven.

Total Score: 38.5

1.) Clarity of thought: 10. The blog is written in small paragraphs, making it easier for the reader to get through it, without feeling overwhelmed. If the reader is still interested in a certain blog entry, she can click on a separate link taking them to “read after the jump.” It uses a combination of lively photos, videos and own photo-shopped writing, making the blog more personal and distinct to Fashionista. Also, as a helpful measure, if you don’t understand some fashion terminology, they have a dictionary specifically just for that!

2.) Timeliness: 10. Fashionista updates several times a day, throughout the day, to give you the most recent and important news. This blog is an archetype to how other fashion blogs should operate.

3.) Relevance: 10. The news featured on this blog involves news occurring in the New York fashion scene. While this may not include everyone, it does deal with high fashion in a very real way, something that can be understood no matter where you are. It also includes subjects from other fashion websites to give you the most relevant information, such as its “Mid-Day Snack” section. This blog also includes various areas of fashion, such as models, beauty, and editorial spreads, so the viewer can be well read in all aspects of fashion.

4.) Degree of Opinion: 8.5. While some blog entries are created just to provide readers non-biased information, other entries are made to showcase models or photo shoots that the writers really like. Either way, you will read this blog learning what is important to the creators of Fashionista. In most news, however, the writers write the entries in a critical way, with a strong point of view.
